The baby Apogee and the second hybrid in a three strong range of hybrid/ribbon speakers from the early 90's to be made, came about as demand for smaller, more managable and easier to drive models from the prestigeous company increased.

The Centaur range brought a taste of the legendary full-range models to a wider public and US company, Apogee's first forray into matching a ribbon tweeter to a conventional mid/bass driver. The Minor was well received in the UK due to it's relatively small footprint and above all, could be driven by real World amplifiers from as little as 20wpc. The 26" 6 element, Kapton aluminium foil ribbon tweeter as used in the full range Stage and Mini grand, was matched to a 6.5" Vifa (PW17-00) mid/bass unit with a claimed 86dB sensitivity. A three way toggle switch on the back of each unit allows for boost or cut of woofer output.

Our pair have been lucky enough to have had genuine  NOS Apogee ribbon tweeters fitted this year that the previous owner had spent many a month trying to track down. On accquiring these Minors we also received the remaning two pairs of old stock ribbons (we still have a set left and one single due to carelessness. *see pic) Not included in this sale and not for sale

We decided to go further and complete the available mods to improve an already superb transducer.

Replace the Vifa PW17-00 with a drop in replacement - the Vifa PW17.01 which has a larger voice coil and magnet assembly, capable of greater bass extension and control. The original drivers are excellent and are boxed and included with this sale

Reflex port each sealed cabinet  according to the original spec Apogee offered at the end of the Minor's run. Port tuning courtesy of Wilmslow Audio UK. This enables greater bass extension but can be plugged in small rooms or where it is not desired.

Remove the front grills (not that easy) then remove the grill peg housings on the baffle and re-bore the holes to 10mm to take the Wilmslow  Audio grill pegs (includes adding pegs to the grills)l ) Now the grills can be removed easily.

Remove the US 6mm spikes and housings. Re-bore holes to 10mm to take UK 8mm spikes for greater stability (Wilsmlow Audio provide all accessories)

In addition to the above, we also have the original stands (boxed) that can be filled and carry intructions. This raises the speakers off the floor and further improves bass quality.and stability.

The vinyl wrap is in very good condition with only the usual peeling on bottom rear corners apparent though not noticable . Do not think you need powerfull tranny amps - you don't, we have gone as low as 10 wpc from a  Leak Stereo 20 and loved every minute!

As with all Apogee's, time spent postioning and dialing in the correct amount of tilt pays huge dividends. The manual is available for download from the Apogee users website though we have included a copy with this sale.

So, new ribbons, new drivers, removable grills, stands, larger spikes, reflex ports.

Cabinet condition is as stated - very good, grills are unmarked and without rips and have the Apogee badges on each unit.

A lot of time, effort and money has gone into these so they are not cheap. Please  note the price on these is firm. We do buy hifi to help your purchase  but trade-ins are not permitted on eBay.
