One of the finest Pres ever As you probably already know... The Sony TA-E88B id one of the finest and most nuetral pres ever designed.It uses a true dual mono circuit with two seperate power suplies and the highest possible quality components.This one need some attention...Here are the faults...1) Although the phono stage works, one side is completely silent, both on phono 1 & phono 2 settings.2) The Power LED isn't lighting.3) The input selector switch sometimes needs a wiggle to bring the right channel in.But saying that i have been using this pre for the last couple of weeks and have conducted some cable tests with it, as it is probably one of the most honest and nuetral pres i have heard.Initially i thought it a tad bland, but after prolonged listening, i now think that it is just very honest and no colour of it's own...Cosmetically is had a few scratches, mainly to the top of the lid and it has a a sony broadcast sticker on it, as this unit was actually used my sony in one of it's music studios, before, i have been told, it was auctioned off.So this unit is sold with the faults listed and is sold 'as is' with no returns, but you are very welcome to listed to the unit at my premises is Bordon, Hampshire, UK if you are local to me.Here is some specs."Sony's big push toward... understatement !Strict dual-mono structure with two transformers, select parts, an (almost) outboard power-supply and no superfluous controls, the TA-E88B was the second pre-Esprit component to appear and was introduced along its Class D TA-N88B mate.The underlying philosophy was : no ICs ! The sealed volume and balance controls are stepped with 150 gold-plated contacts, made by ALPS on Sony's specifications : ZP-1 Perfect Balancer.Germany saw the limited edition WEGA version of the TA-E88B in the Lab Zero series : 250 units. Same preamplifier with revised looks (actually a complete E88B in a supplementary enclosure) with an added sub-enclosure for the bright & shiny LED level display.The TA-E88 is the original japanese version (silver), TA-E88B is the export version in grey or "gun metal".
