 Sony STR-DB940 Amplifier Receiver Speaker Switching Output Relays, Repair Brand new parts: made in Japan  The Sony STR-DB940 receiver is an excellent unit but does suffer from relay failure, the symptoms are one or more channel either not working at all or working intermittently;  poor quality or low level sound is a symptom of the same problem. These relays are directly in line with feeds to the speakers, and change state with power on/off or if the speakers selector is changed, often changing the position of this switch will effect a temporary fix.         On the STR-DB940 they are grouped as follows, one is for the main (A) left/right front, another handles the  B left/right and third is for the two rears, and a fourth is for the centre speaker. You can replace the part responsible or all four.      These relays are used in a large number of Sony amplifiers and are a known weakness, if your unit is not working as it should, see if its fitted with these relays, you may be able to bring it back to life rather than selling it on ebay for pennies. These are six pin 24VDC devices (marked on the top)  with two rows of three pins 7.5mm apart, they are often blue but can be other colours.
